HIV / AIDS

Initially leveraging our experience and relationships in hepatitis (specifically those related to coinfection with HIV), Symbiotix has been working on initiatives in HIV monoinfection for the last several years.

Our work has centered on clinician education within the 4 approved classes of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) as well as the emerging classes. We have built tactics for our non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), protease inhibitor (PI), and fusion inhibitor (FI) clients. We have further been involved in a variety of areas of side effect management—most notably drug-induced hepatotoxicity and HAART-related anemia. In addition, we have been a key player in discussions surrounding early drug development and the evaluation of novel compounds that will replace the maturing products in the HIV arsenal. We have also worked on strategies aimed at better understanding drug targets and viral resistance. Being so intimately involved in these cutting edge developments has further aided in solidifying Symbiotix as a leader in HIV.

With membership in the International AIDS Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), as well as regular participation at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), the Inter-science Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) and other HIV/AIDS conferences around the globe, Symbiotix is well known worldwide for its commitment to this insidious disease state. Most profoundly, however, has been the development of our relationships with HIV thought leaders, both in the US and internationally. We enjoy numerous strategic partnerships with physicians in various practice settings, ranging from inner-city clinics to government-run organizations to academic centers that forge the pathway toward a better understanding of HIV and its complications.
